As president and CEO of Boston Children's Hospital, Sandra Fenwick has served on the CHA Board of Trustees since 2016.
One thing most people don't know about you: I led a research program in Saudi Arabia after college. I was thrown in at the deep end and learned more than I expected about leadership, organization and people skills. It was an enormous risk, but it helped me decide where I wanted to focus my career.
Motto: Love what you do, and do what you love.
Historical figure you admire: Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman to earn her M.D. in the United States. I read her biography when I was in the seventh grade, and I wanted more than anything to be a pioneer in the medical field.
Favorite childhood memory: Traditional Slovakian holiday gatherings with multiple generations of my family
Natural gift you'd most like to possess: Creativity. But that's why I surround myself with the most creative people!
Traits you value in a colleague: Honesty is fundamental to human character; humility is about what we deliver to patients; courage is about doing the right thing, not necessarily the easy thing.
