CHA Comments on CMS State Directed Payment Proposed Rule on Children’s Health
Limits on SDPs will impact children’s access to care
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Children’s Hospitals Association (CHA) CEO Matthew Cook released the following statement regarding yesterday’s release of the state directed payment proposed rule from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS):
“While we are still evaluating CMS’ proposal for any changes to address the impacts on children, we are concerned about how limits on state directed payments will affect all children’s access to care. More than 50% of children who receive care at a children’s hospital rely on Medicaid and CHIP, and state directed payments help support the essential care children's hospitals provide,” said Cook. “Because children make up nearly half of Medicaid enrollees, any cuts to state directed payments will mean significant impacts on children’s health.
“We remain committed to working with Congress and the Administration to ensure last year’s reconciliation package protects children.”
