Paul King Elected Chair of CHA Board of Trustees

Paul A. King, president and CEO of Stanford Children's Health has been elected chair of CHA's Board of Trustees.

WASHINGTON, DC — On Jan. 1, 2022, Paul A. King, president and CEO of Stanford Children's Health in Palo Alto, California, became Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Children's Hospital Association (CHA). King’s leadership of CHA's board coincides with the organization's focus on multi-year priorities including: combatting the mental health emergency among children and adolescents; innovating quality of health care delivery; advocating for policies to support the capacity and viability of children's hospitals; and building greater health equity for children.

“Our nation's children are at a pivotal point as we near two years of battling the COVID-19 pandemic. We must do everything in our power to ensure they feel protected and supported by advancing and implementing health care solutions and policies for their long-term health and well-being,” said King. “The Children’s Hospital Association has addressed the most pressing health care needs of our youngest and most vulnerable individuals, and I look forward to serving as board chair to help advocate and lead positive change in children's health care.”

“Paul is the right leader at an unprecedented time for children's hospitals,” added Mark Wietecha, CEO of CHA. “He will lead the way and help us push through current and emerging crises by strengthening our voice, collaboration and impact.”

King was appointed president and CEO of Stanford Children's Health in 2019. Prior to joining Stanford Children's Health, King spent 35 years in health care management, 23 of those years in executive roles leading pediatric health care enterprises having most recently served as the executive director at the University of Michigan's C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

King succeeds Marcy Doderer, president and CEO of Arkansas Children's, in leading the 2022 CHA Board of Trustees.
