WASHINGTON, DC — Children's Hospital Association (CHA) applauds the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) recommendation of Pfizer-BioNTech's vaccine for children 5 to 11 years of age. The CDC’s announcement comes after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave Pfizer-BioNTech Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for its MRNA vaccine for children. Partnering with the White House and state and local governments across the country, children's hospitals are proud to support the robust vaccination effort of children ages 5 to 18.

"The FDA's EUA and CDC recommendation move our nation, its families, and most importantly our children one step closer to returning to a semblance of normalcy after living for almost two years with the pandemic," said Amy Wimpey Knight, president of CHA. "The health and safety of children is our number one priority. Children's hospitals across the country are working diligently with other health care providers and federal, state and local officials to ensure families have access to evidence-based information and children have access to the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine as quickly as possible."
