Lives Saved: Results from the Pediatric Septic Shock Collaborative

The American Academy of Pediatrics’ Section on Emergency Medicine’s (SOEM) Pediatric Septic Shock Collaborative (PSSC) is the foundation on which the current Improving Pediatric Sepsis Outcomes Collaborative was built. PSSC evolved from a survey of practice by the SOEM. Under the leadership of Dr. Charles Macias, PSSC ran a rapid cycle improvement project in 2012 that saw more than two-thirds reduction in sepsis mortality. Since 2013, 25 hospitals have been developing and testing a standardized trigger tool and implementation bundle for recognition and management of sepsis in the Emergency Department. Learn more about the outcome data and results of this pioneering effort. This webcast reprises a session at the 2017 Quality and Safety in Children’s Health Conference.
