Quick Takes

  • H.R. 1 makes significant changes to the Medicaid program that could affect children’s access to needed health care.
  • The law more strictly limits use of provider taxes and state-directed payments (SDPs), constraining the ways states can raise revenue to finance their share of their Medicaid programs, among other cuts to Medicaid.
  • Imposing Medicare limits on SDPs does not adequately account for pediatric care.

As the nation’s leading advocate for children’s health, the 200+ members of the Children’s Hospital Association (CHA) play a unique role as centers for pediatric care for nearly half of all children admitted to hospitals nationwide and most children with chronic conditions, serious illnesses, complex conditions, or those who need major surgical services.

H.R. 1 makes significant changes to the Medicaid program and includes policies that will limit children’s access to care. CHA is working with federal policymakers to mitigate any negative impact on children.
