CHA Submits FY27 Appropriations Letter to Congress

This letter to Congress highlights children’s hospitals’ most urgent FY27 funding priorities to protect and strengthen child health.

In a March 5, 2026, letter to congressional appropriations leadership, the Children’s Hospital Association (CHA) asks to make child health a national priority through the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education bill.

CHA specifically asked Congress for:

  • $1.02 billion for the Children’s Hospitals Graduate Medical Education (CHGME) program
  • $30 million for the Pediatric Subspecialty Loan Repayment Program (PSLRP)
  • $1.59 billion for Title VII and Title VIII health professions workforce programs
  • $45 million for Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection program
  • $31 million for the Pediatric Mental Health Care Access Program
  • $24.334 million for the Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Program
  • $7 million for the Pediatric Disaster Care Program
  • $51.303 million for the National Institutes of Health (NIH)
  • $35 million for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), $25 million for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and $1 million for the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) to conduct public health research into firearm morbidity and mortality prevention
