CHA Statement on House Passage of the Build Back Better Act

Media Contact

WASHINGTON, DC—On behalf of America's children's hospitals, we are pleased to see inclusion of multiple provisions in the Build Back Better Act passed today by the U.S. House of Representatives that benefit children and families. We urge the U.S. Senate to keep CHIP permanency, 12-month continuous eligibility in Medicaid and CHIP, maternal health protections and an expanded child tax credit as they quickly work to advance the bill. These policies will improve children's access to vital health care services while helping lift families out of poverty. We also strongly support the inclusion of a one-time funding bump of $200 million for the Children's Hospitals Graduate Medical Education (CHGME) program.

We look forward to continuing our bipartisan work with Congress to address the mental health crisis plaguing children and teens by expanding our nation's mental health care capacity, investing in pediatric-care infrastructure and increasing the funding for pediatric training through CHGME.
