Subcommittee approves $325 million for CHGME in FY 2019

Washington, D.C. — Today, the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education took an important step for children's health by approving $325 million in FY 2019 for the Children's Hospitals Graduate Medical Education (CHGME) program. If ultimately approved, this funding level represents an increase of $10 million over FY 2018 funding for the bipartisan program. Children's hospitals thank Chairman Roy Blunt, R-Mo., and Ranking Member Patty Murray, D-Wash., for their commitment to the nation's children and the pediatricians and pediatric specialists caring for them.

CHGME provides crucial funding to 58 children's teaching hospitals to support the training of pediatric residents and fellows. Continuing this program will help maintain and expand vital training programs and protect gains in children's health and access to care nationwide.

On behalf of children's hospitals and the patients and families we serve, Children's Hospital Association looks forward to working with Congress to complete the funding process for this critical, bipartisan program. An investment in children's health care is an investment in the future of our nation.
