Children's Groups Call for CHIP Funding Extension

On Aug. 3, a group of organizations that promote child and maternal health released a statement urging quick congressional action on a strong, five-year extension of funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The statement was released to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the enactment of CHIP. Congress must act to extend funding for CHIP before Sept. 30, 2017 or states may be faced with having to limit or end their CHIP programs.

The statement was released by the Children’s Hospital Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Children’s Defense Fund, the Children’s Dental Health Project, Family Voices, First Focus, the March of Dimes, and the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners.
