On May 15, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) published the “Medicaid Program; Preserving Medicaid Funding for Vulnerable Populations-Closing a Health Care-Related Tax Loophole Proposed Rule.” The rule aims to alter compliance requirements for health care-related taxes, which states use to fund the non-federal share of their Medicaid programs.

CHA submitted comments in response to the proposed rule, highlighting the importance of provider taxes in the Medicaid program and the potential impact of the proposed changes on children’s access to care. CHA also spearheaded a comment letter submitted on behalf of the Partnership for Medicaid, a nonpartisan, nationwide coalition of organizations representing clinicians, health care providers, safety-net health plans, and counties.
