Children's Hospital Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, Coalition for Pediatric Medical Research, and other pediatrics-focused organizations have submitted an appropriations request letter to the Committee on Appropriations.

The letter calls on the committee to provide robust funding for research into pediatric medical conditions at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) with Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations legislation.

Key points in the letter include:

  • Requesting $51.303 billion for the NIH in FY26.
  • Requesting $1.891 billion for the National Institute for Child Health and Human Development in FY26.
  • Urging appropriators to avoid making structural or policy changes at the NIH through the appropriations process, which may put pediatric medical research at risk.
  • Encouraging Congress to seek feedback from the pediatric medical research community on any proposed policy changes at NIH.
