Building Data to Manage a Pediatric Population

As children’s hospitals delve further into value based care models they look to data to better understand their pediatric population. The CARE Award, a three-year project to improve care and reduce costs for children with complex medical conditions, required a novel data and informatics framework for monitoring results.

This white paper describes in detail the development of the framework, the four domains of data including specifications, and the lessons learned for long-term sustainability of future similar efforts. Measurement, reporting and resource requirements for the overall effort are also addressed.

Children’s hospital leaders, particularly those in information technology, revenue cycle and risk management, may be interested in this work.
