Chart of Key Affordable Care Act Insurance Consumer Protections for Children

This chart provides an easy-to-read guide of the insurance market protections under the Affordable Care Act that are particularly important for children and their families. 

The chart indicates which types of private insurance plans (i.e., Exchange, small group/individual market, large group, association health plans, short-term plans) are subject to the various reforms. Specific reforms that are highlighted include coverage of essential health benefits, guaranteed availability, out-of-pocket limits on cost-sharing, annual and lifetime limits on coverage, and prohibitions on pre-existing conditions exclusions, among others.
