CHA and Allied Kids Groups Support CHIP Mental Health Bill

On July 12, Representative Kennedy, D-Mass., introduced the CHIP Mental Health Parity Act (H.R. 3192). CHA in conjunction with allied kids groups sent a letter to Rep. Kennedy in support of the bill, which ensures that kids in separate Children’s Health Insurance Plans (CHIP) plans have access to mental health and substance use disorder prevention and treatment services. The letter emphasizes the importance of addressing the mental health needs of children as nearly 1 in 5 children in the U.S. suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder, yet only 20 to 25 percent of affected children receive treatment.
