Children’s Groups Joint Comments to HUD on Health Impact of Proposed Subsidy Eligibility Changes

On July 9, nine children’s health groups, including CHA, submitted joint comments to the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that urged the agency to withdraw a proposed rule to restrict mixed-status immigrant families’ eligibility to housing subsidies. The comment letter highlights the potential negative impacts of homelessness and housing insecurity on the health and long-term well-being of children. HUD estimates that more than 55,000 eligible U.S. citizen and lawful permanent resident children would be at risk of losing their current housing subsidies and could face housing insecurity and homelessness under the rule.
