CHA endorses MEDS Act

On Nov. 4, CHA joined over 50 allied health partners in supporting S. 2723, the "Mitigating Emergency Drug Shortages (MEDS) Act". The MEDS Act would give the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) additional authority to expedite the review of drug marketing applications and require manufacturers to report contingency and redundancy plans to the FDA for drugs considered critical. Additionally, the bill would require the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Homeland Security to conduct a risk assessment of national security threats associated with the lack of adequate critical drugs. This legislation is an important step to helping to address drug shortages.
