On Jan. 6, CHA joined several nonprofits, nationally recognized health organizations and local governments in signing a letter to the House Energy and Commerce Committee encouraging movement on H.R. 4004, "The Social Determinants Accelerator Act." This bill provides planning grants to communities to develop and design innovative approaches to coordinate health and social services. Additionally, this bipartisan legislation establishes an interagency council overseen by the Department of Health and Human Services to improve health outcomes attributed to non-medical factors such as housing, community safety and food security. The council, comprised of experts in a wide variety of fields, will offer support and strategy to optimize current programming, create new solutions to existing problems, and improve the health of Americans who rely on Medicaid.
