The Children’s Hospital Association submitted comments in response to an open comment period for the National Quality Forum (NQF) All-cause Cause Admissions and Readmissions Project.
As part of its work as a CHIPRA Pediatric Quality Measures Program, the Center of Excellence for Pediatric Quality Measurement (COEPQM), housed at Boston Children’s Hospital, submitted two measures for NQF review. These measures include:
- Pediatric All-condition Readmission Measure, and
- Pediatric Lower Respiratory Infection Readmission Measure.
The Association has advocated for continued funding of the Pediatric Quality Measures Program, which is the first significant funding for the development of pediatric measures at the national level. The COEPQM was assigned the development of readmission measures by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research.
The Association comments focus on the importance of considering risk adjustment for socioeconomic status or other socio-demographic factors and the need for further experience with the measures prior to use for accountability purposes.
