Individual congressional offices are beginning to accept constituent requests for FY 2018 funding for individual programs. The Children’s Hospital Association (CHA) urges member hospitals to ask that their lawmakers submit programmatic funding requests to the House and Senate Labor-Health and Human Services (HHS) Subcommittees in support of $300 million in FY 2018 for Children's Hospitals Graduate Medical Education (CHGME). This amount is equal to the program’s authorization level.
While the information required to complete programmatic requests can vary by congressional office, CHA has prepared materials to be shared with House or Senate offices, including talking points, a brief CHGME program description, a funding history of the program and a sample request letter. Lawmakers can submit the sample request letter to the relevant Labor-HHS Subcommittee, or hospitals can adapt it for their own use. When working with House and Senate offices, it is important to also note that these requests are for programmatic funding and not considered earmark requests.
