On July 22, CHA signed on to a letter as a member of the Mental Health Liaison Group urging S. 2661
, the National Suicide Hotline Designation Act, to be brought up for a vote under standalone passage. This legislation would designate 9-8-8 as the three-digit National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to be used when citizens are experiencing a mental health crisis. This legislation is especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic as an increased percentage of Americans are experiencing worsened mental health. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has already voted on this designation and needs legislative support to enact the fees to ensure proper implementation within the designated 24-month time frame.
