National Survey Results: Quality Measures for Accountability in Children’s Hospitals

William Golden, MD, MACP, Medical Director, Arkansas Medicaid, State of Arkansas
Sally Turbyville, MA, MS, DrPH, Senior Fellow, Quality Policy & Research, Children's Hospital Association

Summary: The industry continues to move toward paying for quality. CHA will present key findings from its 2016 survey on quality programs/measures used by children's hospitals. Hear reflections on the survey from a Medicaid Medical Director, leading to an audience-engaged discussion about opportunities for, and barriers to, using quality measures.

Description: A 2016 national survey of children’s hospitals is the first to capture quality measures used to assess hospital performance for accountability programs such as public reporting, rankings, value-based purchasing, and center of excellence designations. The survey by CHA looked at the types of measure, types of accountability programs and how the measures are used for payment, reward, recognition, accreditation, or selection. Hear the survey results and opportunities for, and barriers to, using these measures in your hospital.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify accountability programs and quality measures currently used in children's hospitals.
  • Understand the opportunities and barriers associated with these programs, and their measures in your own organization.
